2009-10 Post-Promotion Increase Implementation Campus Guidelines (pdf)

ELIGIBIILTIY:

Unit 3 employees hired after August 1, 1988 but before the 2008-09 academic year, academic personnel who currently hold the rank of Professor, (Lecturer D, Head Coach, Librarian, or Student Services Professional, AR III) with an SSI counter of one or zero. Participants in FERP and rehired annuitants are ineligible.

APPLICATION:

Eligible faculty must submit to their department the PPI cover sheet and a summary of accomplishments (maximum of two pages) by the deadline of April 10, 2009. Summary of accomplishments must at least include area of evaluation (e.g., tenured instructional faculty --teaching, scholarship, and service; lecturers-teaching and currency in discipline).

  • Normally, 3-5 years of accomplishments are sufficient, however, accomplishments since last promotion are permitted, but not required.
  • All information provided is subject to verification.

COMMITTEE COMPOSITION:

Each department establishes an elected review committee (either create a new committee or use a designated committee) consisting of at least three tenured full professors (or equivalent) from within or outside the department. An individual who applies for PPI is not eligible to serve on his/her department committee, but may serve on another department's committee.

COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Review PPI applications and determine whether each applicant:

  • Meets expectations
  • Exceeds expectations
  • Does not meet expectations

Committee forwards report of findings to Provost with copy to college dean/program manager.

PPI AWARD and NOTIFICATION:

Applicants determined by department committee as "meeting expectations" will receive a 2.5% base salary increase. Notification will be made by college dean/program manager.

Applications of those determined by the department committee as "exceeding expectations" will be forwarded to the Provost, who will confer with college deans/program manager to determine PPI ranging from 2.75% to 3.5%. Deans/program managers will notify applicants of Provost's decision.

APPEALS COMMITTEE:

The Academic Senate has conducted elections for a PPI Appeals Committee consisting of five tenured, full Professors. The PPI Appeals Committee will consider the original application plus an argument/rebuttal of no more than one page and determine whether to grant the appeal. Notification will be made by PPI Appeals Committee (staff support provided by Academic Personnel).

TIMETABLE:

  • April 10 PPI application (or notification to defer until next year) submitted by eligible applicants to department head/chair.
  • May 1 Department PPI Committee reports findings to Provost with copy to dean/program manager.
  • May 20 Deans advise applicants of PPI decision of the department committee or Provost, as appropriate, and the amount of PPI.
  • May 28 Deadline for appeal (original application plus an argument/rebuttal of not more than one page submitted to Appeals Committee (delivered to Academic Personnel (building 01, room 312), by 5pm.
  • June 12 Appeal process completed.
